One symptom or trait does not a mental illness make any more than a cough means a person has pneumonia. Watching a TED talk does not make one a mental health professional. When people minimize mental health condition or play pop psychologist they contribute to creating an environment where it is harder to get help. So much is unknown about mental illness . . . it’s causes, triggers, effects, symptoms. If you are not a mental health professional perhaps you should not go around diagnosing people. If you are unsure regarding what someone’s diagnosis means try asking instead of jumping to conclusions. My OCD does not mean my house is spotless. When I have suffered from depressive episodes I have not cried all day every day. Perhaps the tendency to project and interpret the behavior of others might compel one to look at himself or herself and either try some empathy or self evaluation.
